Coming Up – Brexit Votes, BoJ Meeting and Slovakian Election

Stockholm (Ekonamik) – The eleventh week of 2019 will be completely dominated by Brexit. The time has come for the votes announced by the British Prime Minister at the end of February. On March 12 a vote will be held on whether the UK should leave the EU based on the existing proposed deals. If the motion is defeated, Parliament will be asked to vote on a no-deal Brexit on March 13. If this motion is also defeated, Parliament will vote on a Brexit extension the next day.

While these votes will capture everyone’s attention, other meaningful events will continue to take place. On Monday the Eurogroup will meet to discuss Greece, Eurozone housing market, Latvia’s budget and plans for a future budgetary instrument for convergence and competitiveness. On Tuesday and Wednesday, several members of the governing council of the ECB will give speeches which should provide some insights on the future path of interest rates and the recently announced TLTROs. Analysts will also be looking for interest rate hike clues in Tuesday’s speech by Fed Chairman Powell. On Friday, the Bank of Japan is also expected to announce its monetary policy decisions for the month.

Finally, the week will conclude with the presidential elections in Slovakia.
